The most famous botched headline in American history - recreated for Hollywood.

This is an original prop newspaper recreating the legendary "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline - the Chicago Tribune's catastrophic election night error of November 3, 1948, when the paper went to press early and called the presidential race for Thomas Dewey before the results were in. Harry Truman, of course, won. The photograph of a grinning Truman holding up the erroneous front page became one of the most iconic images in American political history.

This prop was custom made by The Earl Hays Press for a Hollywood production - the specific title is unknown, but the craftsmanship is unmistakably EHP. A piece that sits at the intersection of prop collecting and American history.

This is not a reproduction for sale as a novelty. This is a genuine production-made Hollywood prop, pulled directly from the Earl Hays Press archive.

Limited stock available. When they're gone, they're gone.

Display it. Frame it. A conversation piece for prop collectors and history enthusiasts alike.

Includes our EHP Certificate of Authenticity, and is guaranteed for life.

Did you know? The Chicago Tribune's "Dewey Defeats Truman" error occurred because the paper relied on early returns and polling data that heavily favored Dewey, and went to press before the full results came in. Over 150,000 copies were printed and distributed before the mistake was caught. The Tribune's editors had been so confident in the outcome that they didn't wait for confirmation. Truman won the election with 303 electoral votes to Dewey's 189 - one of the greatest upsets in American presidential history. The headline has since become a universal shorthand for premature conclusions and the dangers of overconfidence, and the image of Truman holding it aloft remains one of the most reproduced photographs of the 20th century.
